Lucy Diggs was born in 1881 into a prominent family in Washington, D.C. From a young age, she demonstrated a keen intellect and a passion for education. After graduating from Miner Normal School, she pursued further studies at Harvard University, becoming one of the first Black women to earn a master's degree in education.
